The life, figures and landscapes of Gustav Klimt, but also painting and architecture, the applied arts, design and fashion of secessionist Vienna at the end of the 1800s – beginning of the 1900s: these are the main features of a genuine multi-sensory excursus that depicts through visuals, sounds, music and imagery the pictorial, cultural and social universe in which Klimt lived and worked and in which the Austrian painter was the undisputed leading figure.
The goal of this multimedia exhibition itinerary, designed by Cross Media Group, is to offer visitors a new way of enjoying works of art through the constantly developing potential of new technologies. In a unique “experience-room” visitors can enjoy an immersive 360°: from the walls to the floor the images of the works become a single fusion of dreams, flowing and dematerialised shapes in evocative motifs of the art of Klimt, from his beginnings to his final paintings.
Seven hundred images provide a complete panorama of the artist’s output which would otherwise be impossible to see in a single exhibition. A symbolic, enigmatic and sensual world is reproduced with exceptional visual impact thanks to the Matrix X-Dimension system, designed exclusively for this video installation, and which makes use of 30 laser projectors able to transmit over 40 million pixels on the installation’s maxi-screens, guaranteeing better than Full HD definition. As well as Klimt’s art, the exhibition also features vintage photos from the artist’s life along with 3D reconstructions of Vienna in the early 1900s, with its symbolic places, costumes and fashions of a European capital in full swing, including examples of innovative architecture such as the Secession Building in Vienna, with its magnificent Beethoven frieze.
It was against this socio-cultural background that Klimt lived, worked and developed his art, an essential cornerstone for fully understanding the painter’s artistry. Strauss, Mozart, Wagner, Lehár, Beethoven, Bach, Orff and Webern will accompany the visitor with an absorbing soundtrack to demonstrate how much the work of this great artist was influenced by music. Lastly, the cultural experience will be completed with an information and education area providing an introduction to the exhibition.
